Around the time of launching Iamibu, our dear friend Courtney McIntosh was also building something very close to her heart: a premium shopping and lifestyle destination designed to support mothers and mothers-to-beThe Inarra has grown to be a popular go-to website for mothers to seek style inspiration and share their own personal journey. We spoke to Courtney about motherhood milestones and how it has changed her style.

Can you tell us why you decided to start The Inarra?

I started THE INARRA in 2023, driven by my passion for style and a desire to create a platform that supports and empowers mothers. Motherhood is a transformative journey, and I wanted to offer a space where mothers and mothers-to-be could find inspiration, practical advice, and a sense of community. The idea was to combine my love for fashion with meaningful content that addresses the unique challenges and joys of motherhood.

The platform is not only centered around style and dressing during motherhood but also a destination that supports and holds space for mothers. How important has community been in building The Inarra?

Community has been absolutely essential in building THE INARRA. From the beginning, it was clear that creating a supportive and engaging community was key to the platform’s heart and soul. Our readers and followers exchange their experiences, challenges, and triumphs, which not only enriches the content but also fosters a sense of belonging. This collective exchange and support have been the backbone of THE INARRA making it more than just a style destination—it’s a haven for mothers to connect and feel understood.

What has been the most challenging part of starting your own business?

The most challenging part of starting THE INARRA has been balancing the demands of running a business with family life. Building a business from the ground up requires immense dedication and time, which can be hard to manage alongside raising a family. There have been many late nights and moments of doubt, but the vision of what THE INARRA could become kept me motivated.

Along your journey of motherhood so far what has been the most rewarding? What are you most proud of?

The most rewarding part of my motherhood journey has been witnessing the growth and development of my two boys and the little men they are becoming. Each milestone and achievement, no matter how small, fills me with immense pride and joy. I’m most proud of my husband and I for creating a nurturing and supportive environment for my boys that makes them feel loved, heard and seen. A happy and healthy child is all you can ask for.

Would you say your style has changed over the years? What things do you consider before investing in a piece for your wardrobe?

Yes, my style has certainly evolved over the years. As I’ve grown and my life circumstances have changed, my wardrobe has adapted to reflect those shifts. Before investing in a piece, I consider its versatility, quality, and how it fits into my existing wardrobe. I prioritise timeless, well-made items that can be styled in multiple ways and will stand the test of time.

With 2 boys and a business to run, how do you unwind?

Unwinding can be a challenge, but I make it a priority to carve out moments for self-care. Whether it's exercising with a Pilates class, listening to music, taking walks with my boys, cooking, getting inspiration from nature, magazines, and articles, or spending time with my beautiful friends and family. These activities help me recharge and maintain a healthy balance between my personal and professional life.

What is one thing you would tell your 20-year-old self?

I would tell my 20-year-old self to trust the journey and not to be afraid of taking risks. Embrace each opportunity with confidence, and don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Every experience, whether good or bad, contributes to your growth and helps shape who you are meant to become.

What kind of world do you wish for your boys?

I wish for my boys to grow up in a world that values kindness and inclusivity. A world where they can pursue their passions without fear of judgment and where they are encouraged to be compassionate and mindful men. I hope they find immense joy and happiness in both their personal and professional lives and contribute positively to the world around them.
